Parenting Support

Becoming a parent is a game changer. It’s easy to discuss the joys with others, and often is what is expected from a new parent, especially mothers. What’s more difficult is finding a safe space in which to share the frustrations, anxiety, self-doubt and scary moments of becoming a parent without feeling judged. It is not uncommon for women to experience depression and anxiety during pregnancy and after birth. Seeking support can help you understand the processes, both biological and emotional, that accompany parenthood. By confronting the nagging voice of societal and familial expectations that often exhort you to be the perfect parent, you gain breathing room and a chance to seek out your support network and community. Therapy also can help you navigate the changes that new parenthood can bring about in your relationships with others, including partners, friends, family members and neighbors.

Bicultural, Latino, People of Color, Recent Immigrants

Bicultural, Latino and minority individuals often face unique challenges when interacting with mainstream culture. Many minority professionals have identified this as a source of stress. This is a particular area of understanding and experience. Dr. Nerina Garcia-Arcement conducts sessions in English, Spanish or a combination of both languages.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Research in the field of psychology has shown that CBT approaches can be effective for treating certain disorders – specifically anxiety, PTSD and depression. CBT is a therapeutic approach that focuses on people’s thoughts and behaviors. You explore and challenge thoughts to modify behaviors. Collaboratively you will identify your objectives and strengths and develop a plan to attain your goals.

Insight Oriented, Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy is a therapeutic approach that focuses on identifying and understanding how an individual’s past life experiences and relationships have had and continue to influence her or his thoughts, behaviors and beliefs.
